Progress so Far...

Ok, followers, here's the scoop! I was unable to do the detox because not only was the tea nasty! My kiddos were all sick with the flu and strep throat. On top of trying to stay healthy myself and get all my school work done prior to the winter break... I just couldn't hack it! Anyway, I am on day 3 of my hCG diet and it seems to be going well. I treated myself to some Champps Potato Skins and some Lee Ann Chin during my 2 load days. Today I did make on slip up today. I ate one Oreo Cookie! I had forgotten I was on a diet and just popped it into my mouth! But other than that mistake, I have stuck to it, and I feel pretty good. I'm thinking it will be harder tomorrow. I think the hardest part is cooking really yummy, mostly healthy food for my family, that I can't eat!

I have added a weight loss ticker to the bottom of my page to follow my weight loss progress.

60 lbs... One year... bring it on!

Family, Friends, Followers,

I am starting my own weight loss campaign! I am overweight, actually according to my BMI,  I am obese! Most importantly, I am unhealthy and quite upset with myself for letting it get this bad. I can't live this way anymore. I have said this in the past, but have continually made excuse after excuse for myself, some valid, some pretty meager. None the less, NO MORE EXCUSES! After herniting a disk in my low back this past November, I have felt even more sluggish, and lazy! I do not want to feel this way anymore, and I am going to make positive changes to improve my quality of life.

Through out my adult life I have always put my family, especially my children, first. I have come to learn that no matter how important they are to me, nothing is more important than taking care of yourself. If I don't learn to put my NEEDS first, I may not be here for them in the future. For my health and the future of my family I am going on a journey back to health for the course of one year. I'm taking this time to change my life! The most important things I need to do are: learn to take time for myself, EVERYDAY and to include some form of exercise in my daily routine, while learning to eat smaller, healthier portions.

Prior to my first pregnancy I did not eat fast food, EVER! It had been approximately 7 years since I had eaten Taco Bell, and about 6 years since I had eaten McDonalds, I never ate Wendy's. I was guilty of eating out now and then, but I often split meals with friends or saved half for later. During my pregnancy, this ALL went out the window! I started eating out ALL the time, fastfood and resturants, and usually I finished a whole meal. This pattern continued on over the past 8 years, and now I am 70lbs heavier than prior this radiacal dietary change! That's an average of 8.75 lbs a year! My weight gain wasn't as steady as that. I gained about 80lbs during my pregnancy, but lost all but 10 lbs in the first 8 months after birth. I never did lose those 10lbs. I gained an additonal 10lbs in the first few months of my relationship with Andy. We got pregnant soon after beginning a relationship. During that pregnancy I gained 60 lbs. I lost 20lbs during the birth and first month, but I did not lose any more weight after that. I became pregnant again and maintained my weight of 160lbs until my last trimester. I gained 25 lbs. Once again, I lost 20lbs during the birth and first month, but I never lost any more weight. About 4 months ago my weight dramatically increased by 20lbs in about one month. I did seek phycicians advice on possible reasons for my weight gain, but was unable to determine a medical reason for this dramatic increase. I have determined that I need to just get my butt in gear and quit making excuses!

My physician advised me that for someone of my height and age, a healthy weight range would be from 104-128 lbs. I currently weigh 183.8 lbs. I believe it would be entirely reasonable for me to reduce my current weight to 125 lbs over the course of one year. I have determined that in order to reach my goal, I need to lose a minimum average of 5 lbs per month. Of course there maybe times when I lose more or less, but the goal is to stop GAINING weight, and lose a minimum of 5lbs per month through out the year, on average.

My plan to  achieve my goal is to start my reducing my caloric intake to 1200 calories per day starting today for 8 days. On day 9 of my journey, I will begin the hCG diet (which is a 6 week diet). I will explain the concept of the hCG diet in another post. Because of my herniated disk, I am unable to do much physical activity, but I can swim. Starting today I will swim for 1 hour everyday. I will continue to swim during my hCG diet, although exercise is not recommended on this diet, I consider it part of my physical therapy to heal my back, so that after my 6 week diet, I can begin a work out regimin. Which brings me to my work out schedule. I haven't quit figured out what exactly I'll be doing for exercise after the 6 weeks but I have determined that I need to include at a minimum of 7 hour of cardio per week and 3 hours of strenth training per week, according to the Mayo Clinic weight loss recommendations.

I plan on recording my progress hear weekly. This first week I will be posting my current weight and body measurements, and I will be logging my diet and exercise on myfitnesspal.com you may follow me, join me or encourage me as you see fit! Please, no negative critisim.

Thanks!
